How twinformatics uses visual, AI-powered test automation to test legacy systems, SAP, web applications and virtual desktops across technologies—reducing test case maintenance effort by up to 30%.
twinformatics is the IT service provider of the Vienna Insurance Group. It supports insurance companies with a broad and historically evolved IT landscape—from infrastructure and end devices to large-scale insurance solutions.
Its system landscape includes SAP, legacy systems, Java, .NET and web applications, as well as virtualised environments. This creates the need to reliably test business-critical end-to-end processes across a wide range of technologies.
In historically evolved insurance IT landscapes, different technologies, platforms and specialist applications must work together. For twinformatics, this meant ensuring business-critical workflows across systems—including areas where traditional script-based test automation reaches its limits.
Changes to technical IDs, user interfaces or system architectures can create significant maintenance effort in conventional automation tools. At the same time, regression tests must be executed reliably and repeatably within tight testing windows.
Key requirements
Reduced maintenance effort
when UIs, technologies and system landscapes change.
Robust E2E testing
across SAP, legacy, web, Java, .NET and virtualised applications.
Reusable test cases
during technology migration projects.
Broader test coverage
in difficult-to-automate areas.
Understandable test cases
for development teams and business departments, without deep coding knowledge.
Scalable execution
of extensive regression tests within limited test windows.
These requirements formed the foundation of twinformatics’ Drvless implementation.
twinformatics has been using Drvless since 2021. Following initial proofs of value and product demonstrations, twinformatics and Objentis established a scalable client-server architecture for production use. Today, Drvless tests run on approximately 40 virtual desktop instances.
Drvless interacts with applications through the visual user interface—much like a human user. This makes test automation independent of technical IDs, plug-ins and invasive integrations into the systems being tested.
Visual UI recognition
Drvless recognises and operates applications based on their visible interface. This improves resilience to UI shifts, technical changes and evolving system technologies.
No-code and natural language
Test cases can be described in natural language or created with graphical building blocks. This makes the test logic understandable for both development teams and business departments.
Technology independence
Drvless can be used across heterogeneous environments, including web, desktop, SAP, Java, .NET, Unix, streaming and virtualised applications.
Reusability during migrations
Because Drvless focuses on business context rather than technical IDs alone, test cases can be more easily reused after technological changes.
Drvless offers us intuitive access to test automation—even in areas previously considered non-automatable.
Test automation at twinformatics is organised across teams. Test cases are jointly created, extended and executed in defined test sets for recurring regression testing.
Through virtual desktop instances, test runs are automated and performed reproducibly. This enables broad test coverage, reduces manual routine work and improves transparency across complex end-to-end processes.
Typical workflow
1. Create test cases collaboratively
Development teams and business departments define business workflows in understandable test logic.
2. Define test sets
Recurring test cases are grouped into structured regression test sets.
3. Execute automatically and at scale
Drvless runs the tests automatically across virtual desktops and multiple systems.
4. Analyse results and safeguard processes
Results are consolidated, deviations are identified and business-critical processes are continuously safeguarded.

More Information| RESULT | IMPACT |
|---|---|
| Up to 30% less maintenance effort | Reduced effort to maintain automated test cases during the first three years. |
| Up to 20% less implementation effort | Faster creation of new test cases on average. |
| Up to 40% less implementation effort | Particularly in hard-to-automate legacy areas. |
| Broader test coverage | Better coverage of legacy systems, migrations and complex E2E workflows. |
| Enablement beyond IT | Test cases are understandable and usable for development teams and business departments. |
twinformatics demonstrates how business-critical end-to-end tests can be sustainably automated even across heterogeneous and historically evolved insurance systems.
Drvless combines visual AI automation with understandable, business-oriented test logic. This reduces technical dependencies, lowers maintenance effort and expands test coverage in areas where conventional automation is often too costly or too fragile.
