Our colleague Theodor Hartmann will give a talk entitled “Beyond the Wow – Lessons of LLM-Aided Test Case Generation”, where he will share practical insights into using AI for test automation.
His presentation will explore the realities of applying Large Language Models (LLMs) in test case generation, highlighting both their potential and their limitations. He will discuss how a tool combining LLMs with a basic Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach can generate test artifacts such as test cases and test data by leveraging common knowledge alongside customer-specific documentation, requirements, and user stories.
Beyond the technical aspects, the talk will address key challenges often overlooked by non-testers, such as redundancy in generated content, inconsistency of results, and varying effectiveness depending on the application type. He will also highlight the contrasting experiences testers face—from the “fear of the blank page” to dealing with overly verbose, yet sometimes nonsensical, AI-generated output.
In an industry where many believe automation can replace all aspects of testing, Theodor will provide testers with strong arguments on why human oversight remains essential. His talk will emphasize the importance of context-aware outputs, the limitations of LLMs, and why a cautious, balanced approach to AI in testing is crucial.
